The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2021 was awarded to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian ‘for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch’.

David Julius used the substance capsaicin in chili peppers, which evokes the feeling of heat, to identify a protein that registers heat in the nerve fibers of the skin.

The jewelry shows the capsaicin molecule in silver wire with the oxygen atoms as silver balls and the nitrogen atom as oxidized silver ball together with a small red enamelled silver chili.
