Jewelry for December 2018

The molecule in December is channelrhodopsin, ChR.

Channelrhodopsin, ChR.

Channelrhodopsins, ChRs, are membrane proteins that function as light-gated ion channels. These proteins are of interest for neuroscience applications. The jewelry shows the three-dimensional structure of ChR.

This year’s Christmas gift?

Necklace and ear rings in silver inspired by the Nobel Prize 2018 in physics. A short laser pulse, stretched in time, amplified and squeezed together again.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2018 was awarded to Gérard Mourou and Donna Strickland “for their method of generating high-intensity, ultra-short optical pulses.” The technique they developed has led to broad medical applications; for example, millions of eye operations are performed every year with the sharpest of laser beams.

Jewelry for November 2018

The molecule in November is Protein A.

Protein A

Protein A is a protein found in the cell wall of the bacteria Staphylicoccus areus. The protein is composed of five homologous domains that fold into a three-helix bundle. Each domain is able to bind immunoglobulins. The jewelry shows the three-dimensional structure of one domain of Protein A.

World Diabetes Day November 14

On November 14, the World Diabetes Day is highlighted around the world. During November and December, 10% of my sales of the insulin jewelry will go to the Juvenile diabetes foundation (Sweden). Support the fight against type 1 diabetes.

The insulin molecule as necklaces and earrings.

Handmade silver jewelry of the three-dimensional structure of insulin.

The 2018 Nobel Prize in Medicine, Physics & Chemistry

My silver necklaces inspired by the Nobel Prize in medicine, physics and chemistry are available at the Nobel Museum in Stockholm.

Oxytocin is a peptide hormone and normally produced by the hypothalamus. It is released during physical contact, hugs, sex, childbirth and breastfeeding.

It’s a feel-good hormone and is usually called the “Love hormone”.

Jewelry for October 2018

The molecule in October is the hazelnut allergen, Cor a 8.

The jewelry shows the three-dimensional structure of Cor a 8Cor a 8 is a protein from Corylus avellana. The hazelnut allergen can cause an allergic reaction such as local oral symtoms and systemic reactions.
